The Water Transport
Everyday lots of big trucks carry big loads from one place to another. Carrying that big lot of bamboo sticks by road would have resulted in loss of time as well as fuel.
Apart from being environment friendly, the journey through the river is of course much more pleasant for those carrying it.

River transport is indeed cheaper and better but somehow in India people in decision making and infrastructure spending divisions seem to be totally oblivious.
